2 John 1:2 (ESV) Because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever.
The truth described in this passage is a reality, divine truth revealed to man through the working of the Holy Spirit. The word abide in this scripture is defined as to stand for, stay, last, continue, persevere, endure, acknowledge or remain forever as we walk with the Lord allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us and remain forever in us. The Lord said he would guide us in all truth and righteousness.
We have to remember also that the truth that abides in us is always there, however, we have to decide to obey that truth and this has become an issue for many believers in the Lord. I can think of a good example. When things are going so smooth for us, the job is great, you just received a pay raise. The things become distractions from hearing the Holy Spirit in your life and guiding you. Things seem to draw you away from the word of God to read and pray and seek the face of our creator. Then all of a sudden you realize you messed up and have to repent to the Lord and ask him to help you. Many people do not return back to the Lord because satan wants them to believe they can never be restored and come back to Him.
This is far from the truth again we see the principle of when we have broken fellowship with the Lord then we need to return back right away and repent putting away the things which caused us to sin. Here the fellowship is broken but the relationship is not. That is why we feel so miserable when we are away from the Lord until we repent and come home. He does in his loving grace and mercy and reminds you that you have to walk in obedience with the Holy Spirit guiding us. We need to walk as broken men and women before God. Walking in a humble and contrite spirit before the Throne Room of God each day, allowing the truth of God's Word to guide us daily.
